The last battle of Guru Hargobind's life, the Battle of Kartarpur (1635), featured an iconic duel between Guru Hargobind and Paindey Khan, his longtime friend and servant. Guru Hargobind gave Paindey Khan three strikes before finishing off as described below:⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ਹਮਰੋ ਵਾਰ ਰੋਕ ਅਬ ਖਾਂਂਨ । ਕਹਿ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਜੇਤਕ ਬਲੁ ਠਾਨ ।੫੯੧।⁣⁣ Guru Hargobind said, "Now Painda try and stop my strike with whatever strength you have!"⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਤੇਗ ਹਨੀ ਤਬ ਐਸੀ । ਹਨੈ ਤਾਰ ਸਬਨੀਗਰ ਜੈਸੀ । ⁣⁣ The Exalted Guru struck down with his sword in such a way, it cut Painda in half clean like a soap-maker cuts bars of soap. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ਰੁੰਡ ਮੁੰਡ ਕੌ ਚੀਰ ਸਿਧਾਈ । ਲਾਗ ਭੂਮਿ ਜਨੁ ਫਤੇ ਜਨਾਈ ।੫੯੨।⁣⁣ The sword cut straight through, separating his head from his torso, his head hitting the ground as if indicating Victory on the battlefield *for the Guru*.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ਦੋਹਰਾ ।⁣⁣ ਕਹਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਲਮਾ ਪਢੋ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਗਿਰਤ ਅਲਾਇ । ਹੇ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਸਰੀ ਤੋਹਿ ਕੀ ਕਲਮਾ ਰੂਪ ਸੁਹਾਇ ।੫੯੩।⁣⁣ Guru Hargobind then said as Painda was falling "Read the Kalma".
