"No One can Forsake Meat" - Guru Hargobind ⁣ ⁣ Gurbilas Patshahi Chevi *1718*, records how Guru Hargobind tells Jetha about the story of Guru Nanak visiting Kurukshetra on the day of a Solar Eclipse, where Guru Nanak asked Bala to bring meat and fish and then cook it. The Brahmins of Kurukshetra saw this and were upset at Guru Nanak, saying that this was an inauspicious act, Guru Hargobind tells Jetha here how they questioned Guru Nanak:⁣ ⁣ ਕਿਆ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਮਤ ਕਉ ਭਯੋ ਧਰਯੋ ਮਾਸ ਇਹ ਵਾਰ ।⁣ *The Brahmins saying* "What kind of philosophy do you have, that you would eat meat on such a day?!"⁣ ⁣ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਪੂਰ ਜੇਠਾ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਸਭ ਦਿਜਨ ਕੀੰਨ ਉਚਾਰ ।੧੬੯।⁣ *Guru Hargobind saying* "Listen Jetha, they were full of anger when they questioned Guru Nanak.⁣ ⁣ ਚੌਪਈ । ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਨ ਦਿਜ ਕੈ ਬੈਨਾ । ਰਿਸ ਨਹਿ ਕੀਨ ਸ਼ਾਂਤ ਸੁਖ ਐਨਾ । ਪ੍ਰਥਾਇ ਤਾਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੀਨ ਉਚਾਰਾ । ਸਲੋਕ ਮਲਾਰ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰਧਾਰਾ ।੧੭੦।⁣ Guru Nanak listening to this did not reply in anger but peacefully, and to explain to them he recited the Saloks in Raag Malaar *ang 1289 of [[Adi Guru Granth Sahib/Adi|Adi]]*. ⁣ ⁣ ਦਸ ਪੰਦਰਹ ਜੇਠਾ ਸੋ ਜਾਨ । ਅਰਥ ਸੰਕੋਚ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਧਰ ਧਿਆਨ । ਤਾਂਕੇ ਮਾਨ ਨਿਵਾਰਨ ਹੇਤਾ । ਭਾਖੇ ਬਚ ਗੁਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਕੇਤਾ ।੧੭੧।⁣ He recited these 25 lines oh Jetha, listen to the meaning of these lines, he recited these lines to destroy their pride, such was Guru Nanak, the house of Grace. ⁣ ⁣ ਦੋਹਰਾ ।⁣ ਸਭ ਜਗ ਮਾਸ ਅਧੀਨ ਹੈ ਮਾਸ ਤਜਯੋ ਨਹ ਜਾਇ ।⁣ *The essence of the Shabad was to say* All the world is subject to Meat, no one can forsake Meat. ⁣ ⁣ ਸੁਨ ਪਾਂਡੇ ਇਹੁ ਮਾਸ ਕੀ ਉਤਪਤ ਜਗਤ ਦਿਖਾਇ ।੧੭੨। ⁣ Guru Nanak said to them, Oh Listen Pandits about Meat, and showed them the origin of the world *was through Meat*.⁣ ⁣ Gurbilas Patshahi Chhevi *1718*, Chapter 9, page 369.
