The Sikhs ask Bhai Mani Singh to tell the sakhi of the Devi appearing to Guru Gobind Singh. He begins with the Guru summoning a pandit from Kashi and telling him why: ਤਾਂ ਸਿਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਭਾਈ ਮਨੀ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਹੋਰਾਂ ਪਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਸਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਜੋ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਸਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਸਾਹੀ ਨੇ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਵਰਤਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਤੇ ਦੇਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਈ। ਦੇਵੀ ਉਪਾਸਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਸੋ ਸਾਖੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਅਸਾਨੂ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ। Then the Sikhs put a question to Bhai Mani Singh: "The Master, the Tenth King, distributed the Khalsa; and the Devi appeared; he performed Devi worship. Kindly recite that sakhi to us." ਤਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਮਨੀ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਹੋਰਾਂ ਕਹਿਆ। ਇਕ ਸਮੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਸਵੀਂ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੀ ਨੇ ਕਾਸੀ ਤੇ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ। ਓਸ ਨੂ ਬਚਨੁ ਕੀਤਾ ਭਾਈ ਛਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਜੋ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਛਡ ਦਿਤੇ ਹੈਨ ਤੇ ਮਲੇਛਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਫੜ ਲਏ ਹੈਨ। ਇਸ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਮਲੇਛਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਾਜੁ ਤੇਜੁ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਤੇ ਅਸਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਫੇਰ ਫੜਾਇ ਕੇ ਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਮਲੇਛ ਥੋ ਫੇਰ ਲੈਣਾ ਹੈ। ਚਿਕੜ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸੋਨਾ ਕਢ ਲੈਣਾ ਹੈ। ਅਸਾਨੂ ਦੇਵੀ ਕੀ ਉਪਾਸਨਾ ਕੇ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਕਹੁ ਜਿਸ ਕਰਿ ਕੇ ਦੇਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਖ ਹੋਵੈ। Then Bhai Mani Singh said: Once the Master, the Tenth King, summoned a pandit from Kashi. He said to him: "Brother, the Kshatriyas have laid down their weapons, and the mlecchas have taken the weapons up. By this the mlecchas have gained rule and glory. We are going to put weapons back into hands and take the rule back from the mlecchas — draw the gold out of the mud. Tell us the mantras of Devi worship by which the Devi will appear in person." ਤਾਂ ਓਸ ਨੇ ਕਹਿਆ ਜੀ ਗਰੀਬ ਨਿਵਾਜ ਮਲੇਛ ਤਾਂ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਹੈਨ। ਤੇ ਸਭ ਦੇਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਸਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹੈਨ ਤੇ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਜੀ ਹੁਣ ਸਸਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨੂ ਪਕੜੇਗਾ। ਏਹ ਮਲੇਛਾ ਥੋ ਕਿਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਜੀਤਨਗੇ। He said: "Garib Nivaz, the mlecchas are many, and spread through every country. If the Khalsa now takes up weapons, how will they defeat these mlecchas?" ਬਚਨੁ ਹੋਇਆ ਜੈਸੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਜੀ ਕਪਾਂ ਅਰੁ ਭਾਲਕਾਂ ਸੇ ਰਾਖਸਾਂ ਕਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਤੈਸੇ ਹਮ ਏਨਾ ਤਕੜੀਆਂ ਪਕੜਿਨ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਸੋ ਅਰ ਹਲ ਵਾਹਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਸੇ ਸਭ ਮਲੇਛਾਂ ਕਾ ਨਾਸੁ ਕਰਾਵਾਂਗੇ। ਤਾ ਓਸ ਨੇ ਕਹਿਆ ਜੀ ਗਰੀਬ ਨਿਵਾਜ ਜੇ ਤਾਂ ਬਰਸ ਰਾਤੀ ਤੁਸੀ ਨੇਮ ਕਰੋ। ਤੇ ਲਖ ਦੇਵੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਠ ਕਰਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਦੇਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਖ ਹੋਵੈ। ਤਾਂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਨੈਣਾ ਦੇਵੀ ਕੇ ਟਿਲੇ ਉਤੇ ਬੈਠਾ ਕੇ ਹੋਮ ਦਾ ਅਰੰਭੁ ਕੀਤਾ। ਚੇਤ੍ਰ ਕੇ ਨੌਰਾਤਿਆ ਦੀ ਅਸਟਮੀ ਕੇ ਦਿਨ। The Master said: "Just as Sri Ram ji had the demons destroyed by monkeys and bears, so shall we have all the mlecchas destroyed by these scale-holders and plough-drivers." Then he said: "Garib Nivaz, if you keep a vow for a year of nights, and have a lakh recitations of the Devi performed, then the Devi will appear."
