After the hom, Guru Gobind Singh gives pahul to five Sikhs with the Devi's knife and takes it from them. Then the hill rajas come for darshan and are offered the same:
And with that knife he put patase into water, read the savaiyas, and gave pahul first to five Sikhs; and then took pahul from them himself. He declared: "Never let go of weapons. Even at the sight of weapons an enemy does not lay a hand on you. This practice of weapons had slipped from the Raghuvamsis; the mlecchas had taken the weapons, and by them ruled the world. Now we have put weapons back into your hands. Learn the science of weapons and we shall win you back the rule."
Then the rajas came for darshan. The Master said to them: "Take pahul and embrace Vahiguru's Sikhi, and we shall win back for you the rule of the Raghuvamsis that was wrested from you on the earth." They petitioned: "Let our *lāṅg*, our tuft and our sacred thread remain, and we will take pahul."
The Master said: "When one becomes the disciple of a yogi or sanyasi, he gives initiation only after erasing every prior mark of Brahma. To you we were giving the sacred thread of the sword for the world's work, and the sacred thread of wisdom (gyān) for cutting birth and death. If you cannot bear this greatness, then we shall put weapons into the hands of the other four varnas and have them break the rajas and the mlecchas alike — as Sri Ram had the demons broken by monkeys and bears."
They said: "These are plough-drivers and scale-holders and eaters of greens — they are like sparrows. The mlecchas and the rajas bear weapons and eat meat — they are like hawks." The Master said: "We shall have hawks broken by sparrows. And we shall make all of you subject to them." ‖152‖
