ਮੈਲਸੀਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਚੌਧਰੀ ਭਗੀਰਥੁ ਕਾਲੀ ਦਾ ਉਪਾਸਕ ਹੈਸੀ । ਜਬ ਬਾਬਾ ਓਸ ਨਗਰੀ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਭਗੀਰਥ ਵਡੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਟਹਿਲ ਕੀਤੀ। ਰਾਤ ਨੂ ਬਾਬਾ ਓਸੇ ਨਗਰੀ ਰਹਿਆ। ਤਾਂ ਭਗੀਰਥ ਓਥੇ ਹੀ ਸਉ ਰਹਿਆ। ਜਬ ਪਿਛਲੀ ਰਾਤ ਬਾਬਾ ਉਠਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਭਗੀਰਥ ਭੀ ਉਠ ਕਰਿ ਇਸਨਾਨ ਨੂ ਜਲੁ ਲੈ ਆਇਆ। ਅਗੇ ਦੇਖੇ ਤਾਂ ਮਹਾ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਹੈ ਅਸਟ ਭੁਜਾ ਹੈਸੁ। ਤੇ ਝਾੜੂ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਤਾਂ ਭਗੀਰਥ ਪੁਛਿਆ ਤੂੰ ਕੌਨੁ ਹੈ ਜੁ ਅਜੇਹੇ ਸਮੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਥੀਂ ਬਾਹਿਰ ਆਈ ਹੈਂ। ਤਾਂ ਓਸ ਕਹਿਆ ਭਗੀਰਥਾ ਤੂ ਅਸਾਨੂ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਦੇਵੀ ਹਾਂ। ਤਾਂ ਭਗੀਰਥ ਚਰਨੀ ਲਗਾ। ਤੂ ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਹੈਂ। ਸਭਣਾ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਹਾਇ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈਂ। ਰਾਕਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈਂ। ਇਥੇ ਝਾੜੂ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਰਨੀ ਹੈਂ। ਤਾਂ ਦੇਵੀ ਬੋਲੀ ਏਹੁ ਸੰਤ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਗਣ ਰੂਪ ਹੈਨ। ਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਰਗੁਣ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ। ਤੇ ਜੇ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੈਂ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨੀ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਏਹੁ ਸਕਤਿ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਤਾਂ ਭਗੀਰਥ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਾ ਸਿਖੁ ਹੋਇਆ। ਸੰਤਾ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਗਾ। ਤਾਂ ਓਸ ਦਾ ਉਧਾਰ ਹੋਇਆ।੧੧। Bhagirath, the chaudhari of Malsihan, was a worshipper of Kali. When Baba [Nanak] came to that town, Bhagirath performed great service and attendance. At night Baba stayed in that same town, and so Bhagirath slept there too. When Baba rose in the last watch of the night, Bhagirath also rose and brought water for his bath. Looking ahead, he saw a woman of great beauty — she had eight arms — and she was sweeping. Bhagirath asked, "Who are you, that you have come out of your house at such an hour?" She said, "Bhagirath, do you not know me? I am the Devi." Then Bhagirath fell at her feet: "You are the Mother of the world. You are the helper of all the gods. You are the destroyer of the demons. Why are you sweeping here?" The Devi said, "This Sant is the nirgun form of the Maharaj, and I am his sargun form. And when I serve the sants, this power (ਸਕਤਿ) arises in me." Then Bhagirath became a Sikh of the Guru.
