The Devi's answer to Guru Gobind Singh's petition at Naina Devi is a *recognition*, not a gift. She ranks him with Vishnu and Shiva as her son — and adds *nirbān*, ever-liberated, beyond her. Then she girds the khanda on him and leaves to fight her own war: Then the Devi spoke thus: As Hari and Shankar are my sons, so are you — ever liberated (nirbān)." So saying she girded the khanda on him, and went to slay Shumbh and Nishumbh. Her last words, as she vanishes after his praise: ਦੋਹਰਾ । Hearing the praise she vanished, making this declaration: "You shall obtain every happiness. Know your state as Brahm-rūp." In Koer Singh, it is the Goddess who pronounces the Guru's identity with the Absolute.
