Koer Singh records both what the *bemukh* (the turned-away) and the *sanmukh* (the facing) Sikhs said about the Devi-puja at Naina Devi — and refuses to adjudicate:
The bemukh declare: "He won one battle against the rajas and the Sodhi has swollen with pride. Now he has staged this *sāṅg* in the world, wanting to make Kali appear… His fraud will be exposed; everyone everywhere will know. Great kings, avatars — none ever saw Kali with their eyes."
The sanmukh: "Truly, certainly, Kali will appear; in a moment the Guru will please the Devi… Those who spent kalpas in japa still did not attain Mahakal; He pleased him in a moment — crores of Chandis are contained in his feet."
Thus the sanmukh talk — the doubt of the age is a play.
