In the passage below, the Great Poet Santhok Singh mentions the gift-giving tradition within the Khalsa, whereby Sikhs would write and distribute hand written copies of Gurbani. ਪੜੈ ਸੁਨੈ ਚਿਤ ਲਾਇਕੈ ਜੌ ਲਿਖਿ ਦੇਯ ਸਪ੍ਰੀਤ ॥ Those who, with great concentration, listen, read and write hand copies of Japuji Sahib out for distribution. ਮਨ ਚਿੰਤਤਿ ਫਲ ਪਾਇਕੈ ਤਰਿ ਹੈ ਸੁਖ ਭੈ ਭੀਤ ॥42॥ Obtaining the fruit from all the mind's desires , they will peacefully cross the terrible ocean of existence. ਭੇਟਾ ਕਰਿ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਗੁਰ ਤਬੀ ਫਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਿੱਖ ॥ The Guru's teachings within Japuji Sahib will come to fruition to that Sikh who writes by hand a copy of Japuji Sahib for another Sikh of the Guru. ਜਥਾ ਸ਼ਕਤਿ ਜਪ ਕੋ ਜਪੈ ਸਿੱਧ ਹੋਇ ਗੁਰਮੁੱਖ ॥43॥ That Guru oriented person attains perfect realization when, with all their effort, they recite Japuji Sahib ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਸੂਰਜ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ, ਰੁੱਤ 5, ਅਧਿਆਇ 28 *1843CE* Gurpratap [[Suraj]] Prakash Granth, Rut 5, Chapter 28 *1843CE* ਕ੍ਰਿਤ: ਮਹਾਕਵੀ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਸਿੰਘ Author: the Great Poet Santhok Singh ![[gift giving.png]]
