During Guru Hargobind Sahib's first battle, the Battle of Lahore, the Great Poet Santokh Singh recounts a dual between Paindey Khan, a one-time Pattan ally and Didar Ali.
ਹਯ ਹਤ੍ਯੋ ਕਹਾਂ ਕਿਯ ਓਜ ਤੋਹਿ । ਤੁਝ ਹਤਨਿਹਾਰ ਪਿਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਮੋਹਿ ।
ਅਬਿ ਤਰੈ ਉਤਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੋਇ ਹਾਥ । ਤਬਿ ਲਖੌ ਹੋਹੁ ਬਲ ਅਧਿਕ ਸਾਥਿ ।੯।
Didar Ali then said to Paindey Khan, "You've killed my horse, what show of strength is this? Look carefully at me, I am the one who will kill you. Get off your horse and show your strength, then only I will recognize that you are a powerful warrior."
ਸੁਨਿ ਸਹਿ ਨ ਸਕ੍ਯੋ ਬਚ ਪੈਂਦਖਾਨਿ। ਹਯ ਤਜ੍ਯੋ ਆਪਿ ਬਨਿ ਸਾਵਧਾਨ ।
ਹੁਇ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਕਹ੍ਯੋ ਕ੍ਯੋਂ ਮਰਨ ਚਾਹਿ । ਮਮ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਨ੍ਯੋ ਕੈ ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਨਾਹਿ ।੧੦।
Listening to this Paindey Khan could not restrain himself, he dismounted his horse and readied himself. Getting close to Didar Ali he said, "Why do you want to die? Have you never heard of my name?
ਮਮ ਏਕ ਮਸਟਿ ਕੋ ਲੇ ਸਹਾਰਿ । ਪੁਨ ਕਰੌੰ ਖੜਗ ਤੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰ ।
ਸੁਨਿ ਸੱਯਦਿ ਕ੍ਰੁੱਧਤਿ ਨੇਰਿ ਆਇ । ਤੁਵ ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਹਾਥ ਕਾਟੌਂ ਬਨਾਇ ।੧੧।
Try and endure just one strike from my fist, then I'll bother with striking you with my sword." Hearing this Didar Ali the Sayid was furious and approached Paindey Khan saying, "I'll properly chop that hand off" *if you try that*.
ਇਮ ਕਹਤਿ ਕਰ੍ਯੋ ਤਬਿ ਤੇਗ ਵਾਰਿ । ਧਰਿ ਸਪਿਰ ਪੈਂਦ ਖਾਂ ਲਿਯ ਸਹਾਰ ।
ਪੁਨ ਉਛਲਿ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਿ ਮੁਸ਼ਟ ਜੋਰਿ । ਜਹਿ ਕਰਨ ਮੂਲ ਤਹਿ ਹਤਿ ਕਠੋਰ ।੧੨।
Saying this Didar Ali then swung his sword at Paindey Khan, but Paindey Khan blocked this with his shield, and by leaping forward *to close the distance* he then viciously struck Didar Ali, hitting him with a brutal strike right under his ear.
ਸਹਿ ਸਕ੍ਯੋ ਨ ਸੱਯਦ ਕੰਪ ਖਾਇ । ਗਿਰ ਪਰ੍ਯੋ ਬਾਯੁ ਜਨੁ ਤਰੁ ਗਿਰਾਇ ।
ਬਿਨ ਸ਼ਸਤ੍ਰ ਲਗੇ ਹੋਯਸਿ ਬਿਨਾਸ । ਸਭਿ ਪਿਖਹਿ ਤਮਾਸਾ ਆਸ ਪਾਸ ।੧੩।
Not being able to endure this strike Didar Ali the Sayid fell, as a large tree falling during a large storm. Without being struck by a weapon he was killed, while all the soldiers of both armies watched from both sides.
ਪਿਖਿ ਸਾਧੁ ਸਾਧੁ ਕਹਿ ਖਾਨ ਸਾਥ । ਬਹੁ ਹਸੇ ਗਰੀਬ ਨਿਵਾਜ਼ ਨਾਥ ।
Guru Hargobind, the cherisher of the poor, watching the fight hysterically laughed and said "Bravo ! Bravo !", to Paindey Khan.
