During the first day of the Battle of Anandpur (1704), most of the Singhs were entrenched in fortifications but the passage below describes how Guru Gobind Singh sent Uday Singh and Daya Singh to break the front battle lines. The Great Poet Santokh Singh describes Uday Singh and Daya Singh as both Bhujangis, a term used for those accomplished warriors who were able to comb through enemy battle lines like a snake. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ਕਹ੍ਯੋ ਸ਼ੀਘ੍ਰ ਜਾਓ । ਮਲੇਛੈਂ ਹਟਾਓ ।੧੫।⁣ Guru Ji said, "Go quickly to the front ! Suppress these Malechs!⁣ ⁣ ਭਰੇ ਛੋਭ ਆਏ । ਗਿਨੇ ਜੋ ਨ ਜਾਏ ।⁣ They've come with great anger! Those who are limitless in number! ⁣ ⁣ ਇਤੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਥੋਰੇ । ਰਿਪੂ ਪੁੰਜ ਘੋਰੇ ।੧੬।⁣ There are only a few Singhs! *but* large amounts of enemies! ⁣ ⁣ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਪਿਛਾਰੀ । ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਨ ਭਾਰੀ ।⁣ Supporting from behind ! Will be great Shaheed Singhs! ⁣ ⁣ ਬਡੋ ਆਇ ਹੱਲਾ । ਨਹੀ ਜਾਇ ਝੱਲਾ ।੧੭।⁣ They will wreak great havoc! Which the enemy will not bear ! ⁣ ⁣ ਉਭੈ ਅੱਗ੍ਰ ਜਾਵੋ । ਲਰਾਈ ਮਚਾਵੋ ।⁣ Both of you to the front lines! Ignite the fight there!"⁣ ⁣ ਸੁਨੇ ਬਾਕ ਐਸੇ । ਬਲੰ ਪਾਇ ਜੈਸੇ ।੧੮।⁣ Listening to these words, *Uday Singh and Daya Singh* received great strength.⁣ ⁣ ਨਮੋ ਠਾਨਿ ਚਾਲੇ । ਮਹਾਂ ਸ਼ੱਤ੍ਰੁ ਜਾਲੇ ।⁣ They saluted the Guru and went, where great enemies were *ready to fight them*⁣ ⁣ ਲਰੇ ਅੱਗ੍ਰ ਹੋਏ । ਸਭੈ ਬੀਰ ਢੋਏ ।੧੯।⁣ They went to fight in the forefront, approaching all the warriors⁣ ⁣ ਤਹਾਂ ਦ੍ਵੈ ਭੁਜੰਗੀ । ਗਹੇ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਨਿਸੰਗੀ ।⁣ There these two Bhujangis, went through *the enemy lines* without fear ! ⁣ ⁣ ਧਰੇ ਚਾਂਪ ਬਾਨਾ । ਕਰੇ ਓਜ ਤਾਨਾ ।੨੦।⁣ Gripping their bow and arrows, they drew their bows with great strength !⁣ ⁣ ਮਲੇਛਾਨਿ ਮਾਰੈਂ । ਪਗੰ ਅੱਗ੍ਰਡਾਰੈਂ ।⁣ Killing the Malechas !
