After Guru Gobind Singh received Khande Di Pahul from the five Singhs, the Guru reiterated the code to the Khalsa telling them:
ਸੁਚ ਸੋਂ ਰਹਿਨ ਉਠਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਤਿ ਮੈਂ ਸ਼ਨਾਨੋ ਤਨ ਸ਼ਸ਼ਤ੍ਰਨਿਤੇ ਛੂਛੋ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੋ ਰਿਪੁ ਭੰਗ ਕਰਿ ।
"Remain clean, awake at sunrise to wash your body, never ever be separated from your weapons, remain destroying the enemy.
ਕੇਸ ਕੱਛ ਕਰਦ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੀ ਤੀਨ ਮੁੱਦ੍ਰਾ ਇਹ ਪਾਸ ਤੇ ਨ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਦਾ ਅੰਗ ਸੰਗ ਧਰਿ ।
Kes *unshorn hair*, Kach *briefs*, and Karad *knife* are the three symbols of the Guru, keep them close, never far, forever adorn them on your body."
