*Sankhep Das Gur Katha* ("The Brief Story of the Ten Gurus") is a short Braj verse account of the ten Gurus, 234 numbered verses with gaps. It is attributed to **Kavi Kankan**, traditionally one of the poets at Guru Gobind Singh's court. Dating runs from 1699 to the late 18th century. Internal evidence (Bijapur and Bhagnagar listed as Mughal subas, the Khalsa as Guru, "every house a mint," the Panth still paying the Devi's price of sava lakh heads) points to after 1687 and probably the mid-18th century. It is devotional *ustat* more than chronicle. Its big set pieces are Guru Hargobind's hawk battle (with Persian ruba'is), the Bakala search, Guru Tegh Bahadur's arrest over a shawl, the Devi's appearance at Naina Devi with the curse of sava lakh heads, and the founding of the Guru Khalsa.
