# Adi Guru Granth Sahib
*1604 · compiled by Guru Arjan*
Compiled by Guru Arjan in 1604 and installed at the Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar, the Adi Granth gathers the compositions of the Guru Sahibs alongside those of the bhagats. The notes collected here approach it not as a closed book but as something to be studied — a guide to understanding Gurbani through its meanings (ਅਰਥ), grammar (ਵਿਆਕਰਣ), poetics (ਕਵਿਤਾ), and the historical context (ਉਥਾਨਕਾ) behind particular compositions. Much of this reading follows the sampradaik tradition, drawing on the ṭīkās and the vocabulary of the older schools rather than flattening the verses into a single modern gloss. The selections range from the nondual wisdom of the Gurus to Guru Arjan as a warrior-poet, and from the devotional to the polemical. Together they are meant to open a door into how Gurbani was heard and explained within the tradition itself.
