The Udasi group was started by Guru Nanak Dev Ji's celibate renunciate son, Sri Chand. Historical texts detail how this non-Khalsa group was still integral to the functioning of the broader Sikh community during the 18th and 19th centuries. To this day Khalsa Sikhs continue to learn and study with Udasis, most notably the celebrated scholar Giani Sher Singh who studied with an Udasi, Pancham Prakash.
