ਸ੍ਰੀਗੁਰੁਰੁਵਾਚ ॥ ਚੋਪਈ ॥ The Exalted Guru's Speech - Chaupai
ਆਤਮਵਿਮੁਖ ਬੁਧਿ ਜਨ ਜੋਈ ॥ ਇੱਛਾ ਤਾਹਿ ਵਿਖਯ ਕੀ ਹੋਈ ॥ ਤਾਸੂੰ ਚੰਚਲ ਬੁੱਧਿ ਵਖਾਨੀ ॥ ਸੁਖ ਆਭਾਸ ਹੋਇ ਤਹਂ ਹਾਨੀ ॥
That person whose mind is focused away from their Self *Vemukh*, that is the person who desires external objects, that kind of person has a wavering mind *which then* destroys within them the reflection of Bliss.
ਜਬ ਅਭਿਲਖਿਤ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ ਤਬ ਮਤਿ ਛਨਕ ਵਿਛੇਪ ਨਸਾਵੈ ॥ ਤਾਮੈ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਅਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਬਿੰਬਾ ॥ ਪੁਨਿ ਛਨ ਮੈਂ ਬਹੁ ਚਾਹ ਵਿਡੰਬਾ ॥
When the desired object is obtained, then within their mind their wavering disappears momentarily, at that time they view the reflection of Bliss, but shortly afterward (that disappears) and they desire more which will (continually) rob them.
ਤਾਤੈਂ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਥਿਰਤਾ ਕੀ ਹਾਨੀ ॥ ਸੋ ਅਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਬੰਬ ਨਸਾਨੀ ॥ ਵਿਖਯ ਸੰਗ ਇਸ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੋਈ ॥ ਬਿਨ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਯਹ ਲਖੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
From that moment their stillness departs, and the reflection of Bliss dissipates, *but they think* it was through the satisfying of the senses that the Bliss was perceived *not the stilling of the mind* - Without a True-Guru *Satguru* no one understands this *erroneous cycle of perception*.
